Ringside Mentoring.

The Approved Mentor List was established at the request of the American Kennel Club.  Ringside mentors help educate aspiring judges in our breed and is one of the approved learning tools for judges to use when applying for additional breeds.  For the SCA National, ringside mentors will be selected by the SCA Board from the list of Approved Mentors.

A person may not be a ringside mentor at a National for two consecutive years.

AKC permits parent clubs to determine their own rules to establish an approved mentor list.

To be placed on SCA’s Approved Mentor List one must complete four requirements:

  1. Be a member of the Samoyed Club of America for 10 years in good standing
  2. Have been actively showing or judging Samoyeds in conformation for a minimum of 12 years
  3. Attend an Approved Mentor Education Seminar, which includes completing a Canine Anatomy test and a test on the Breed Standard.  These are both open book tests.
  4. Sign the Mentoring Étiquette Form.

Applications and tests are normally completed and submitted after attending the seminar and should be submitted to the Judges Education Committee upon completion.  The SCA Approved Mentor List is maintained by the Judges Education Committee and is included on the SCA and AKC web sites.

If you meet the above qualifications, and are interested in giving back to the Breed by helping to educate new and aspiring judges on our Breed Standard, please consider attending our Mentor’s Education Seminar and become an SCA Mentor!
